Samsung’s first 5G-enabled smartphone will go on sale in the UK next month.

The Samsung Galaxy S10 5G will be available from June 7 on EE and Vodafone – two of the first UK networks to confirm they will begin rolling out 5G connectivity this summer.

The new smartphone will be similar in design to the S10 line-up introduced by the Korean technology giant earlier this year, but will come with a larger 6.7-inch display and four rear cameras.

It will also include a larger battery and fast wired and wireless charging capabilities.

Samsung said the phone will allow users to download video content faster than ever before, as well as enjoy “console-style, graphics-rich games” without a Wi-Fi connection because of the speeds of 5G.

Kate Beaumont, Samsung’s director of innovation, technology and services, said: “The Galaxy S10 5G unlocks an entirely new mobile experience to prepare consumers for a world of possibilities: a larger 6.7-inch dynamic AMOLED display; a new 3D depth camera with live focus video; and the biggest battery available in the Galaxy S range.

“The Galaxy S10 5G is a visionary, ultra-premium device for those looking to stay ahead of the curve.”

Several other smartphone makers are also planning 5G-compatible devices.

Earlier this week, OnePlus unveiled its flagship 7 Pro phone, as well as a 5G version of the device.

Fellow Chinese phone maker Huawei is expected to announce a 5G-ready phone in London later on Thursday.

That is despite the ongoing controversy around Huawei and its potential role in the infrastructure equipment that will build 5G networks because of concerns over the company’s links to the Chinese state.
